  • Bad Stuff Going Down in NY Lately

Eliot Spitzer gets caught using extremely high priced prostitutes. Construction crane, that nearby residents have complained about, crashes – with 4 dead and 3 missing. The Fed bails out Bear Stearns, possible indication of more bad news to come not just for Wall Street but the US economy.

  • StarCraft 2 Zerg Reveal Trailer

Blizzard recently released a new trailer featuring the Zerg for the highly anticipated StarCraft 2. I can’t wait for this game to come out. It’s pretty much a guaranteed blockbuster given the huge built in customer base. Not to mention practically every gamer in Korea is guaranteed to buy this game.

    Anyway, here’s the trailer:

  • Digg Looking for Buyers

So TechCrunch recently reported that Digg is looking to be acquired. Note that this is not official and is an unconfirmed report. Among the parties bidding on Digg are Microsoft and Google. I think it’s about time and if Digg doesn’t sell soon, it’s going to have to lower its expectations more and more. Honestly, apart from their “algorithm” which can easily be reproduced or emulated, there’s nothing special about Digg other than its large user base. That in itself is not a unique advantage. Yahoo just released a similar site called Buzz and I think Yahoo can find ways to leverage its massive user base and channel traffic through Buzz.

  • Century Eggs

I remember seeing an episode of Fear Factor a long time ago where they ate century eggs and all the contestants were getting grossed out. I thought it was pretty ridiculous because I think century eggs are delicious. Either Fear Factor purposedly prepared the eggs to smell / taste really bad or the contestants were faking it. Or perhaps they just had a preconception of century eggs and their mind did the rest. Either way it’s a misrepresentation of this dish. I don’t eat it often but when I do I definitely enjoy the dish.

  • Use Your Period For Good

I was looking at movie trailers late last night over at Yahoo Movies and an advertisement came on for tampons and the ending tagline was just so damn ridiculous (and funny). Basically the commercial was saying many girls in Africa miss school during their period because they don’t have protection. Then it said whenever you buy Tampax, they’ll donate tampons to African girls or something like that.

The commercial ends with a woman saying, in an uplifting tone:

  • Uhm… No, No, NO

“The Hottie and the Nottie” proves the nonexistence of God

“Considering roughly 90% of the civilized world would pay good money to see Ms. Hilton’s brains bashed out by an angry homeless person, Paris Hilton’s presence in this film alone is enough to make it positively horrendous. That she also executive produced it makes it nothing less than an abomination.”

This editorial made me laugh out loud a couple times. Watching this movie may make you dumber by several orders of magnitude. Even entertaining the idea of watching it is really stupid.

  • Oh No…

Prolonged cell phone use reduces sperm count/quality? Read about the recent study here. Maybe it’s a good idea to get back on AIM.

  • Happy Chinese New Year

Well, to be more politically correct, Happy Lunar New Year! Since many Asian cultures also celebrate the lunar new year. Well the year of the pig (I’m a pig on the zodiac) is over now so lets usher in the year of the rat.

  • Microsoft Offers to Buy Yahoo for $44.6 Billion

Well I fire up my RSS reader and of course the big news everybody is talking about this morning is Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Yahoo. I always thought this would be a good thing considering there’s just no way Microsoft by itself can compete with Google in search. Microsoft’s share is just too small and while Yahoo is ailing, it has lots of valuable assets and web properties (aside from the obvious main Yahoo portal), hence the enormity of the offer. If it happens, it would be one of the largest, if not the largest tech takeover. Microsoft can probably fund a huge chunk of this acquisition using cash they have on hand.
