OMG, I Won the Euromillones Spanish Lottery! (SCAM)

I’ve Hit the Jackpot

I’m announcing my retirement – it’s only $715,950 but I think I can stretch that and bum around for a decade. Okay, I’m kidding. The other day I got a piece of mail (direct mail, NOT email) that came from Spain (I’m not sure, but definitely somewhere in Europe). There’s no return address and I thought… that’s weird, I don’t know anyone in Europe.

Forged Letter With Fake Graphics

Euromillones Scam

I open it up and there’s this watermarked letter complete with crappy header logos and an even crappier graphic in the bottom right that’s supposed to be some kind of authentic security seal. These graphics are blurry and just scream fake and unprofessional. So this letter goes on to describe how my name was submitted to an international lottery in Spain through a cross-promotion with some American company and that I won $715,950. They claim that it’s now placed at a security company and I have to call them so they can transfer it to my bank. I’m guessing the first thing they’ll ask for is some money to deposit or some type of transaction fee.

This letter has so many things on it that should set off warning alarms for people but I’m sure people fall for this, just like those Nigerian email scams. I didn’t think they did this with direct mail though. I’m surprised because this cost them “50p” from what I see on the stamp, while sending emails is basically free. If these fraudsters are willing to spend money, it means their endeavors are profitable and people are indeed getting scammed.

Obviously when I get a foreign letter telling me I won a lottery I didn’t participate in, my first reaction is skepticism. I thought “okay, whatever” and the first thing I did was hop on Google and search for “euromillones” and quickly confirmed this is a scam. Apparently they used to do this with email as well (or maybe they still are).

Here’s another page about these fraudulent scams on the official Euromillones website: Scam Letters & Emails

Watch Out For Scams Like This

I’ve added (SCAM) to the post title just to make it really clear. This post was originally meant to be sarcastic but people who’ve received the same letter are finding this post online when looking for info. So just to confirm, the Euromillones letter is a SCAM.

Bottom line is if you actually won the lottery they would not just mail you a plain letter like this to notify you. It would most likely be a phone call or at least a certified letter requiring signature. And they would never ask you for personal financial information or any kind of up front deposit to claim your winnings. Plus, how many lotteries have you played where you had to give out personal information like your home address?

As good as it might sound, if it’s too good to be true, it probably is – money doesn’t just drop out of the sky onto your lap like this.

I’ve now won Euro Millones three times! The most recent letter I received, however, was not up to the quality I expect from this scam. The first two times the printing–while lousy–was full-color. On the new one it’s grayscale even more pixelated than before. Perhaps they’re not making the big bucks with this scam they had hoped to and have had to cut costs…

Well I thought there are institutions that actually sue people like this ones, and probably’s been going for years so we are not protected from any authority and I’m really dissapointed I’m living in the most strong country and it still doing NOTHING to reach any justice. ENGLAND suck because it only shows what it doesn’t have JUSTICE!!! Send them to prison that’s illegal nobady can reach my name and address if me personally don’t give it away!! Well done “GOVERNMENT”.

  4. Ellis Mair

  7. devinder singh

today i also received a letter from euro million that i win 815810 euros and structure of letter were so poor that i understand that it was a scam. They mentioned in the letter that i can claim my money from a security company in spain. i rang that company i ask couple of questions and they do not know the answers and they do not have any website so i did not sent any of my details to them.

I just got my copy in the post today dated 30th June 2008 in London . I knew it had to be scam and this blog is the second google result after the companies own website!

Sadly It seems there must be enough stupid people who fall for this scam that they can afford to carry on with this.

I’d love to do something that would waste them more money and cause them wasted time. I’m thinking maybe emailing them from a disposable email address and getting them to call my voice mail.

  9. mo

I just received my copy well a photocopy by the looks.
They couldnt even be bothered to put my name of the main letter. Have anyone else noticed that we all
winning the same amount nearly, mine is supposed to be 815.950.00. well i better go back to work as i not rich.

  10. Tony

My 69 year old mother received a similar letter today.

Maybe, very probably, these letters originate from outside Spain (anyone can buy postage stamps – look at eBay), maybe outside of EU ?? Out of legal reach….erm?

Monies they do manage to collect are directed to who? / to where? / for what purposes?? I suspect web-sites such as this serve these criminals with useful feedback!

The letter my mother received is now being posted to the Trading Standards Office in the UK.

A final thought, has anyone in Spain received these letters?

Well I must go now, to buy my National Lottery tickets! Bigger fool me, eh?

  11. Tony

Further to my earlier comments (no. 110). Have reported details of the offensive “SCAM” letter, to the Office of Fair Trading, via an independant agency – another layer of poorly informed minions!

They have details on their database, being part of “an ongoing investigation” – since 2005 if this web-site is a fair indicator?

Do any Spanish readers know what the authorities in Spain (if Spain is where these scammers ARE based) are actively pursuing, and convicting, these low-life parasites! Please tell us your viewpoints.

  12. june

We’re in South Africa – received our letter this week – were also sceptical and because at first they’re not ASKING for money we thought it just MIGHT be legitimate! But decided to check out on internet first and voila !!!!!
Glad we didn’t waste money on a phone call but if we had, and if we’d been asked to deposit money or send money we would definitely have become suspicious!!!
Perhaps Dr Phil could take up the cudgels on this Scam?!

  13. guus

How about calling this guy at midnight? I bet this is a private phone number, not in an office, and it has to real. We all just call a few times and let it ring once. There’s going to be a very tired mr. Zapatero ;-)

  14. Maxine

Well folks I got my dreams fulfilled in one this morning after the postman brought me the winning lottery letter..lol, i got the answer to all my prayers*not*.
I was laffin all the way to the pc as I knew even before i reached this website it was one of those SCAMS. Rev James Luis, operations manager of Union Security S L Madrid wants me to call him on +34 664 142 100…Prat! does he think ive got time to waste….Ive got a job to go to.
I did however notice that the typed envelope had my old post code, we had ours changed by the PO here in UK a few years ago, i guess the info these people have is def outdated. Lets hope these scams go the same way.

  15. Anna

I´ve got one of those mails too. My mum would definetly believe it if she could understand english.

  16. Tania

Hi all, I got this from the Mail prefrence service e-mail – very useful for UK residents:

    Problems with Mailings from Overseas?

Mailings from overseas promoting lotteries or ‘get rich quick schemes’ are more often than not misleading and fraudulent.

Our advice is not to reply and to put it straight in your recycling bin.

It’s a difficult problem to solve but the Office of Fair Trading is working on it, you may like to send any copies you receive, including the envelope, to the European Enforcement Team at the Office of Fair Trading at Fleetbank House, 2-6 Salisbury Square, London EC4Y 8IJ.

  17. Marie

Yeah I got this Euro Millones too (CLEARLY THIS IS A SCAM SO DON’T KID YOURSELVES)…………….

  18. Sara

    Hi all

My daughter who is 20yrs old and a single parent received this letter this morning posted from Madrid.
I have never seen my daughter so extatic at the thought of all her problems being solved.
I am so pleased this info was available on the internet as I was nearly fooled also.
I think this is sad that these people have no consciense, no life and to be taking what could be someones every penny.
    WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!!!

  19. Colin Baars

Its not a bad thing to say that these people deserve to be tied up, castrated, gang raped, decapitated and fed to the poor bulls they still treat like shit!

Sorry this isn’t constructive criticism but people need to know they are crooks and I can’t believe how many people are out there with no morals, ethics or conscience.

I’ve never been so hacked off to find out I’ve won £815,950 euros.

  20. Damon Ormonde

I was just about to buy a small little island in the Bahama’s…..I wish i’d never done a Gogle search, lol Now hitting Wales with a scam like this is extremely intelligent of the them….some of us are desperate down here you know the sheep and cows aint producing the goods they must have been tasting it in the milk and known ;-p

  21. tara pratt

  22. andi

    Seems I’m rich too…………….NOT!!!
Received my letter today saying I had won 715,810.00. Fortunately the crappy photocopy was an instant giveaway that its a scam and then asking for bank details!!
Thank god my DH didn’t open the letter he would have probably fallen for it-LOL

  23. Dr Bob

    Hi!

My 10y old girl got the letter too. I reported it to the police.

  24. r mortimer

well here is another winner ah ah my wifes just got her letter stating she as won £715.810.00 on the uero lottery letter recieved today 21st oct 2008 she has packed my bag for me why i dont know ? until i told her it was a scam but come on get wise to these so called people and i will continue to send my begging letters i will let u all know if we ever win anything on the lottery bye bye

  25. Emma

I just received one of these also, apparently I have won $815,950.00…. the weird thing is though, that the letter came all the way from Madrid to Boulder Colorado USA! I have no freakin clue how these people even got my address! Sadly I can’t afford to get to Madrid to sign the fund legalization documents so I guess no big win for me. Seriously though, this is terrible. I know better than to trust this piece of paper, but some people don’t… it looks pretty convincing in some ways, even has a real signature and everything.

  26. student

I receice sms this morning congragulating me and saying that winning prize is $1,116,000,00. I reply them back with an email, they aswered me in immediate affect, with all congragulations from staff again.. it was an email from madrid spain, with yahoo account… They send me so many documents to fill up and tring to convince me with stupid copied certificates.. I was near to believe I talked with a man and a woman,, they were so kind,, but i was suprised when saw a request of some amount of money.. after send money I dont know you, you dont know me..
A huge bullshit.. These people have no life.. Is spain so poor country? undeveloped? even uneducated?(many spelling mistakes) thanks for the comments people

  27. Maria Gandolfo

I’m one lucky dude – last year I won over 700,000 Euro and today I get another letter from EuroMillones informing me of my E615,810.00 win. My contact agent is Mr.Godson Alvaro Galvez Foreign Services Manager of Barcelo Seguros S.A. Tel:034 692 364 357 and fax 0034 011 012 109.
I wish i’d got these letters two years ago when I actually visited Madrid & Barcelona and then I could have collected my winnings personally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Last year I did nothing about it but this time I think I will contact the Spanish consulate – something should be done about these scams – how gullable do they think we are anyway?

  28. john frauts

WOW got my letter yesterday, guess I am one of the other milions who have won money!!!Boy I am going out to buy a new house right now!! YEA RIGHT!!! How do you spell SCAM???

  29. gigalla

got the same letter, the weird thing is that they have everyones adress to send it as a letter. Sad that some people actually go for this scam, but if they cant smell 150 different signs of scam that this letter smells of then i guess the deserve it. I googled all the names in the letter, not surprisingly none of them came up with any hits(other than post like this saying it’s a scam) I remember i got the same crap on e-mail once, it was from netherlands(Holland) saying that i won 12 million euoros, haha. The mail said to copy my passport and all my bank info and mail it back. I mean, why don’t they just call the mail “scam” and write this: “hi, i’m going to scam you out of all your savings, please send me all your info that i need to pull this scam off” Anyway, i geve the letter to the cops, they sent it to international department of crime or something, doubt that they will find any connection to who sent it, but maybe they at least warn the people.

  30. Krish Appavoo

Right, just got my letter, ordered my Aston and have bought a new house!!! It’s sad people actually fall for this but it just goes to show how far scummy people will go to get hold of your well earned money.

  31. marie

My father died and before he died he lost 43k of his remaining life savings and died with a credit card debit of 20K to pay for the Spanish Lottery Scam. A few months after dad died my mother sent another 20k over to claim it. We can’t watch our parent all the time…They are just as vulnerable as our teens….Shame to die with debt and on an sham….but worse off…my family hates me for telling them it was a scam and calling the police…..There’s got to be a way to leave our elderly alone….Now mom owes 5k in phone bills to Spain to the “nice” man!! …omg…please help us all..

  32. Nicole

Ugghhh… My mother in law, who does not speak english well, keeps getting spam letters in the mail such as this new one from Spain. I can’t believe people have the mind to actually try and screw such innocent, uninformed people. IT’s sad. Her letter, dated October 12, 2008, said she won $915,000.00 Euros. It was from “Vice president General Jose Luis Perez”, and her claims agent is “Mr. Juston Xiva”. This lottery is a scam, and hopefully people will learn, and no one else will ever fall for this again.

  33. Yvonne

Thanks to all who have posted. It still doing the rounds. Today got an e-mail claiming I’d won 500,000 euros from Spain – EUROMILLIONESLOTTERIA s.l, referring to a Mr Pedro Sanchez (!) Claims Processing Manager. There is a separate e-mail from LOPEZ stating congratulations, but I’m not even going to open that one in case they are dropping cookies.

  34. Theresa

  35. Robert

    Hi Guys,
I reside in New Zealand and received a letter (photocopy) with a release order form for about 815000 euros and the usual instructions to contact their security company In Spain for further instructions.
What a joke! These scam artists think we are stupid as their bulls they kill mercilessly in the bull fighting ring.

  36. george

in Greece happened!!my grandmother is also one of the people who received a letter with a photocopy of winning 615,810 euros and a form to complete and send it back with her ID.thank god she does not know english at all so she gave it to me..these bastards must pay because they may trick a lot of people especially the elders.
what the people do today to earn money…it is really unbelievable!!!!!!

  37. CRIS LUMAQUE

OMG! WE WERE ALL VICTIMS OF THIS SCAM, REALLY! MAY THESE SCAM PRODUCERS BE BLESSED OF WAHT IS GOOD FOR THEM! THANKS TO ALL WHO POSTED THEIR COMMENTS! WONDERFUL ACTIONS!

  38. P Barbour

    10th June 2009
I have now received this letter what caught my eye was the fact that the letter was headed Madrid, Spain, but was posted in Losbon, Portugal. strange

  39. Lopez

OMG……thank you ppl for the comments so we will know….my mom got one as well, ……letter headed Madrid< spain but the postage stamp was from portual….. and the zip cod NC. this ppl are so unbelieveable. Good thing there are some smart ppl around……

  40. Me

I believe I have got the email version of this scam, saying I had won 750,000 Euros. They seem to have brushed up their act, only a little bad grammar and no upfront demand for money, although it may perhaps be hoping I reply so they know that email address is ‘live.’ Of course, as I am too young to play lottery etc, these scams always seem a little odd right from the start

  41. Michelle Phee

I too have just this very morning recieved a letter telling me that I had won and realised that it was a hoax they never even got the numbers right in my letter lol

  42. Dom

I also recently have recvd that letter announcing I won hundreds thousands euros … sorry it’s not true as i need it !!
I rcvd it here not in a big town but on a quite small and still wilde island lost somewhere in the south pacific …
    I question myself :
    * are there so many poeple to answer that kind of scam and send them some money to make the scam profitable ?
    * as they send apparently so many letters worldwide they must have or ‘shares’ into the spanish post office !! or a real return on their shame activity

    * I would like to have comment of persons having sent money even small money to them …

    * and why and how such scam is still active and not blocked by authorities ???

    rgds …

  43. John

Mom won; THIRTY THREE MILLION NINE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS from “EURO MILLONES”. She is having a hard time deciding what to do with all these Euro’s!
What a bunch of crap!! These scammers should remember: JUDGEMENT DAY! Oh wait, I forgot most don’t believe in that. This is a certified scam from Nigeria according to other comments. Hope no one sends money! MaybeI can leave a bit of info that will help others. Don’t Call and waste money to: “Dr. ALLWELL BROWN, Foreign Operations Mgr” Euro Union Security at: Tel: 01134 603 193 444. This person will tell you to call Bank Of Madrid Ext #24 @ 011346 979 00556.

  44. T Colliss

What a load of crap they should be shot some elderly people will believe this and lose there savings

  45. Samantha

haha. My dad recieved a letter yesterday ., which left all of us (family) in surprised because we never palyed in any international lottery game but nevertheless we believed at once. My dad was abt to buy his own fax machine to send the form so noone can see how much money he will actually win. what were more astonished my mom was already scare taht she want a gun to protect herself and my brother took a day off becaz he taught that will get much more that what he will lose but thank GOD for the internet. but somebody from authority should look in at do some sort of follow up.

  46. Samantha

Not forgetting my sister came ALL the way from America

  47. Polly

Got a letter yesterday from Spain much the same as the others saying I’d won 1,215.810 euros. Thought immediately it was a scam so came straight onto google and my suspicions were confirmed. Thank goodness for the internet!!! lol

  48. Sarah

Love the “information age” for this very reason. God Bless (and protect) the sweet little ol’ folks who think their ship has finally come in!!! You see, like many others out there, I do enter mail sweepstakes ALL the time…only the FREE ones! So, hummm, I thought, just maybe it actually paid off. BUT, I never sent ANY entry to a different country, my name is always entered on the form…I read this SCAM letter again “searching” for my name. I thought, if (and when) I do actually win one of these things…THEY WILL KNOW MY NAME. So straight to Google I came! My letter promised me 18,671,410 EUROS…shared among 17 international winners, leaving me with 815,950 EUROS, oh and the 5% to this “agent” for purchasing my ticket on my behalf. What a load of CRAP!!!! The post office should put warning stickers on these envelopes; the ones without return addresses and postage from different countries. I am certain this would save some very dear souls a lot of heartache. Thank you for this information and for all the posts! Blessings. Karma will come back to these sorry scammers.

  49. Linda

For a brief moment, I thought , omg. Could this be true? Until I got on here. This really bites. This is so uncool. I’m definetely turning my letter in to the T.V. station and police.

  50. Cynthia
