  • Roger Federer Wins the French Open!

Talk about playing his best tennis when it really matters. Congratulations to the greatest player ever! 14 slams and a career grand slam – wow!

Roger Federer Wins 2009 French Open

P.S. I called this a few months ago after the Australian Open. I wrote it down on a piece of paper. I felt making the prediction pubicly on the site here would jinx it. I sooooo called it. Fed wins the French Open. :-D

P.P.S. Anyone notice that wicked backhand half-volley winner from the baseline late in the match? The commentators didn’t even mention it because they were busy talking about the GOAT. Seriously that was a frickin ridiculous shot. I mean, his forehand half-volleys are badass, I’ve never seen him make this shot though. No one in the world except Roger could pull that off.

  • NBC Coverage of French Open 2009 Men’s Semifinals SUCKS ONCE AGAIN

See my rant last year about NBC’s POOR coverage of the French Open semi-finals here. Well NBC sucked it up once again this year. As tennis fans know, Federer is arguably the most popular tennis player, despite being ranked #2. He is on the brink of making history, going for his 14th major to tie Pete Sampras and the career grand slam. NBC had exclusivity which means no other channel could air or live stream the French Open men’s semifinals today. Their coverage today was also limited to just a 10 AM to 1 PM time slot. What do they decide to do?

Instead of airing the 5th set of Soderling vs. Gonzalez live and then covering Federer v. Del Potro, they decide to air a taped replay of Soderling/Gonzalez. So there was NO live coverage of Federer’s semifinal match in the US. NBC, you suck. You suck so much, it’s ridiculous. Your tennis ratings probably suck because you air taped replays, packed with commercials, of matches people don’t want to see. If you can’t cover the tournament properly, then don’t cover it all you jackasses!

  • French Open: Road to Semis

Yes, another French Open post. Murray has just lost and I wasn’t surprised at all because while Murray has improved, he’s still not really great on clay. And Soderling shows his win over Nadal was no fluke, when he beat Davydenko pretty handily earlier today. I had actually thought Davydenko would come through since he’d been playing well and dispatched Verdasco relatively easily.

  • French Open Week 1 Roundup

I woke up today, checked some tennis sites, and had my jaw hit the desk and I let out a very audible “OH MY GOD!”. It was that shocking. Nadal lost at the French Open. In the 4th round, to Robin Soderling! You know, I’m a die hard Federer fan but that doesn’t mean I hate Nadal. I do consider myself a fan of Nadal actually, he’s just not my favorite tennis player. But this was indeed a disappointing and very stunning loss.

  • Mike Brown is a Glorified Cheerleader

Is Mike Brown the head coach of the Cavs or not? What I found amazing was that in practically all of the timeouts at the end of Game 4, on both key defensive and offensive possessions, it was the assistant coach calling the plays, telling the players what to do, and drawing on the clipboard. Mike Brown just stood and watched. Contrast this with Phil Jackson, Stan Van Gundy, or George Karl – these coaches are always calling the plays. Coach of the year my butt.

  • Federer Wins Madrid Open

Federer just beat Nadal at the Madrid Open! On clay. In Spain. In straight sets. Fed was serving very well and not crumbling at clutch moments like he’s been prone to lately. Even won the match on an ace after a shaky game. Congrats, Roger.

  • Open-Mindedness

Saw this video on Digg, I really liked it:

  • Madrid Open: Worst Site Ever

Well, not ever, but the website for the Madrid Open is one of the worst sites I’ve ever used. The logo is ugly (reminds of the London 2012 logo but that one still takes the cake), the color scheme is way off (gray on bright aqua?!), and the overall usability is absolutely horrendous. Just horrible. And oh, it scrolls sideways. I can’t believe people are paid to produce sites with this magnitude of suck. Or a likely scenario is a tournament organizer’s “nephew who knows web stuff” put the site together.

  • Yao Ming Presser After Game 1

Wait for the end. Yao Ming’s a funny guy! This could be a very good series. I picked the Lakers but I totally wouldn’t mind Houston winning.

  • NBA Playoffs 2009

I’m rooting for the Bulls in this series. Last night was crazy. 3 OT’s? Joakim Noah’s fast-break dunk was badass – straight up for the slam. That’s how you do it! No sissy layups. Just put the ball in the basket. Rose had a critical block but he missed both free throws – clutch failure. If Boston had 10 seconds or a timeout, it would’ve been very dangerous. Ray Allen was on FIRE last night, damn. But let’s face it, if KG were healthy, Boston would probably have won the series in 5. But now they’re toe-to-toe with a 7th seed Eastern team. But neither team really has a chance to make it to the conference finals.
