Federer Wins 2008 US Open, 13th Grand Slam

Federer beat Andy Murray in the final in straight sets (6-2, 7-5, 6-2) to win his 13th grand slam and 5th straight US Open! Finally, he grabbed the last grand slam of the year. I thought Murray was really going to give him a fight, considering how well he played against Nadal. Congrats, Roger!

Federer Will Bounce Back

Federer’s a champ - he’ll bounce back. The loss hit him pretty hard but don’t think he’s just going to lay down his racket. Just wait and see. It’s going to be very hard, what with all the points he needs to defend, but I really want to see him come back roaring and maintain his #1 ranking.

OMG, ARE YOU PEOPLE WATCHING THIS?

This Wimbledon final is unbelievable. We’re going to a 5th set. Wow. Just WOW!

UPDATE: Well, I’m disappointed Federer lost, but give Nadal credit - he played a great match. Both played unbelievably well. That was probably one of the best matches I’ve ever watched (if not THE best). That was seriously incredible tennis. These guys are untouchable.

So Many Pundits Writing Off Federer

I’ve been seeing so many articles and videos of people picking Nadal to win Wimbledon. I want to see Federer prove them wrong. He’s been playing flawless tennis - few unforced errors and incredible serving. I think it’s going to be very, very difficult to break Federer’s service games. But I would have to agree the final is going to be a very tough match because it’s very clear to everyone Nadal has improved his game on grass. But seriously, how can anyone write off Federer, the guy has won the last 5 Wimbledon’s and 65 straight matches on grass and still counting.

2008 French Open Men’s Final, Federer v. Nadal

Wow, I did not expect Federer to be so thoroughly dismantled. Although I knew Federer had to play an excellent match to win, I honestly believed he had a chance. Nadal is just too damn good on clay.

NBC’s Coverage of 2008 French Open Men’s Semifinal Was Awful

NBC, you suck. Your coverage of this year’s French Open Men’s Semifinal matches was AWFUL. You grab the rights to broadcast but you do an absolutely horrible job, making it thoroughly un-enjoyable. Instead of airing at 7 AM to cover Nadal v. Djokovic live, NBC obviously aired their stupid morning show. They started airing the French Open at 10 AM and decide to air the tape of an already completed match (Nadal v. Djokovic). Not only that, over 3 hours they couldn’t even air the complete match because literally half of the 3 hour period was filled with commercials. Maybe more! Seriously, I’d walk away when a commercial came on, come back, watch tennis for 30 seconds, and another commercial break would start.

They skipped almost the entire second set. Commercials aired every few minutes. It was so unbearably annoying. I understand TV networks need to make money but it was just so obvious NBC cared nothing about covering the French Open but instead just wanted to fill a weak spot in their schedule to sell ad slots.

Milk and Oreos

Double Stuf Chocolate Creme Oreos and a glass of milk make an excellent midnight snack. Especially when watching Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic. Ana was pretty lucky tonight. I’m looking forward to the women’s championships and Federer v. Djokovic. I have GOT to go to sleep, geezus look at the time.

Yay, Tennis Season is Back

The first major of the season, the Australian Open, is well underway now. All eyes on Roger Federer setting big new records in 2008 (career slam, consecutive championship record at a couple majors, surpassing Pete Sampras’ 14 majors).

US Open 2007 is Entertaining

More people ought to follow tennis. This year’s US Open has been pretty enjoyable so far. Federer continues his flawless and completely dominant play as usual. That guy is so fun to watch. I don’t know how anyone can challenge him. Tonight’s match of Federer v. Roddick is definitely an exciting match. Their head to head record is 13-1 (Federer) but you never know with these things. Hopefully Roddick puts up a good fight and we have a competitive match.

Federer Wins His Fifth Wimbledon Title in a Row

Federer and Nadal - Wimbledon 2007

Wow, this was one heck of a championship match - talk about top notch tennis. Federer is just on a whole other level compared to the rest of men’s tennis. I certainly think he’s the best player ever. I mean, the guy is only 25 and he has 11 majors. Roger Federer has won 11 of the past 17 Grand Slam titles. If he wins the U.S. Open in September, he’ll have 12 already! I’m pretty sure he’s going to break Sampras’ 14. Roger’s won 5 straight Wimbledon, 3 straight US Open, and 2 straight Australian Open! Even Pete Sampras wasn’t as dominant as Federer.
