No Academic Motivation Left
Wow, since Spring Break my motivation to do school work has plummeted. I just don’t feel like doing any school work anymore. I look at my textbook and it’s just like, I don’t want to read this at all. There just doesn’t seem to be a point, at this point. I’m focusing more and more time on entrepreneurial endeavors. In under 2 months I’ll be a graduate. I can’t wait to be out of school.
Spring 2006 Semester
So it’s finally my last semester in college. This semester I’m looking to cruise through and spend more time on my business. I only have a humanities requirement left so I’m taking an Introduction to China class which seems fairly interesting since it does directly relate to me. (We have the same history but China and Taiwan are separate, independent nations). I’m also taking a high level course at the Johnson business school on electronic commerce so that should be a pretty good experience. My schedule also includes Introduction to Wines, one of the most popular classes at Cornell, one that many seniors take. We basically learn all about wines and do lots of tastings. Should be fun. The remainder of my schedule includes a course about human development of adolescents/youths and a human resource management class.
Competitive Strategy Game
So I’m taking this class called Management Strategy and we’re playing a simulation game played by business school students. It was created by a professor in UC Berkeley and basically each period your team or “firm” can build capacity and specify price and quantity for 4 different markets. Each team has different cost structures and each market has different characteristics.
My Classes Thus Far (Fall 2005)
Well I’m currently studying for an exam I have on Tuesday and I’m taking a little break. I actually take a lot of breaks because I can never really study for more than 15 minutes without digressing to something else. I just felt like discussing what I think of my classes so far:
Limbo Time and the Current State of Higher Education
I usually update my blog either during homework breaks or during those small pockets of time where I just don’t feel like doing anything at all. This is what I call limbo time. During limbo time, I don’t feel like reading, studying, surfing the web, playing games, or working on anything. I just don’t want to do anything. Obviously limbo time leaves me very bored. Also right now I have a slight headache probably caused by sleep deprivation over the last 2 weeks. I’ve developed some form of insomnia where I just feel the need to mess around until 4 AM.
Anywho, I’d like to now vent about classes and education:
Phil’s Latest Update From This Frozen Tundra
Boy, the past weekend has been like a tropical paradise - temperatures in the low 30s at around freezing level. Man I felt like getting out and enjoying the weather more. Considering the past week it was like a Siberian nightmare in Ithaca. We had -30 degrees F over here with the wind chill. It was insanely cold. I bought these new 180s earmuffs that go around the back of your head - these things are awesome.
I’m in HD 362
Well, the collective karma thing must have worked because I’m enrolled in HD 362 Human Bonding now!
I had emailed the professor but she shot me down because the class limit is based on the legal occupancy of the auditorium. But yesterday morning, I logged into the the online add/drop system, and was miraculously able to get into the class. Someone must have dropped it during the night. This class looks to be very interesting and I’m glad I’m in the class.
Not to mention the fact that out of 600 students, about 500 are female, and about 1/3 of those chicks are pretty decent. Weee.. ![]()
Trying to get into HD 362
Well there’s this really popular class here at Cornell, HD 362 or Human Bonding. It talks a lot about relationships and interactions between males and females. I’ve been told the class is very interesting and also provides a lot of useful information. A few of my friends are taking it right now. I really wanted to take this class but instead I opted for a class within my major, AEM 419 Strategic Thinking. AEM 419 is in the same time slot as HD 362, but so far, I’m not really liking AEM 419 and I’d rather join my friends over at HD 362. I can always take AEM 419 next year.
The problem is, the class is full, and it has a 600-person enrollment cap. I’ve emailed the professor and tomorrow I’m going to attend the class and speak to her afterwards. I’m crossing my fingers and really hoping I can get into the class.
