Video Games

I like to play video games. Mostly PC games though since I’ve never really been into console gaming.

StarCraft 2 Zerg Reveal Trailer

Blizzard recently released a new trailer featuring the Zerg for the highly anticipated StarCraft 2. I can’t wait for this game to come out. It’s pretty much a guaranteed blockbuster given the huge built in customer base. Not to mention practically every gamer in Korea is guaranteed to buy this game.

Anyway, here’s the trailer:

STARCRAFT II

StarCraft 2

This was really big news in the video game world and I began following it when there were rumors floating around that Blizzard would announce a new game at the Worldwide Invitational in Korea. For those that don’t know, Starcraft is insanely popular in South Korea and it’s actually a sport there (with spectators and televised matches). It was only logical to assume that this new product would be the long awaited Starcraft II. Blizzard’s tagline when they introduced this game was very appropriate - “Hell, it’s about time.” In my opinion, Starcraft is one of the greatest games ever and the best RTS game (so far). You just have to be into the game to understand.

Xbox 360

I’ve been gaining interest in purchasing a next-gen console, specifically the Xbox 360. Especially since there are some pretty interesting games coming out exclusively on the Xbox like Gears of War and Lost Planet. And I guess Halo 3 but I’ve never been into the whole Halo craze.

Holy Crysis

Head over to www.gametrailers.com and check out the videos for Crysis, a new first person shooter (FPS) based on Crytek’s next generation graphics engine, CryEngine2. All I have to say is WOW. I mean, holy crap. The capabilities are so advanced. I played Crytek’s original game, Far Cry, and it was a pretty fun game. I’m surprised more companies didn’t use their original Crytek engine. It was supposedly very good at the time. Anyway, I can’t wait until this game comes out. I don’t know if I’ll even have the hardware necessary to max out the graphics.

F.E.A.R.

First Encounter Assault Recon (F.E.A.R.) is just too cool of a game. In a crowded first player shooter market, this game really stood out by combining the spookiness of Japanese horror with outstanding graphics and gameplay. This game keeps you constantly on edge and provides several heart-stopping encounters of the supernatural kind. The scary parts of the game do smack a bit of The Ring and The Grudge but the game does do it well. Although the story isn’t the most creative one in the world, they present it very well in little bits and pieces throughout the game and leaves enough intrigue and mysteries for a sequel.

Advent Rising

Advent Rising is a game I recently played and really enjoyed. It’s a third-person action/adventure game. The gameplay is unique in its original targeting system which combines traditional weapons and special powers. The story/cinematics and sound are also great. The biggest drawback is the technical glitches throughout the game - such as the camera angle spinning out of control or flying off-angle, getting stuck in weird places, other characters not following you, etc.

Mario Kart Double Dash

My roommate Robert and I have been waging a war for the past month. I don’t want to brag but I’m pretty damn good at Mario Kart Double Dash on Gamecube. At least I have not yet met anyone that can beat me. I hold all the saved records. So one day a few weeks ago, Robert decides to take my name off one of the records. It was 50cc Grand Prix Mushroom Cup - the first and easiest map of the game. Not surprisingly, he succeeded. So then I beat his record. Then he beat mine. You get the idea.
