Every time I see a picture or video of this guy, I instantly think “slimeball”. I think the Democratic caucus should kick him out. He campaigned for John McCain and attacked Obama. This guy couldn’t get the Democratic nomination for his senate seat so he went Independent. Yes, he’s traditionally voted with Democrats but this guy can’t be trusted or relied upon by the Democratic party. The Democrats should not get greedy and try to expand their Senate power. We don’t have the 60-seat filibuster-proof majority but we’ve gained 6 seats. The Democrats do not need Joe Lieberman. I bet Joe was pretty damn disappointed when McCain didn’t make him his running mate. When McCain’s numbers were sliding, the guy even started praising Obama. What a damn sycophant!

Any Presidential campaign with enough money to pull something like this off would jump at the chance to do it. Obama’s campaign is unrivaled in size, depth, scope, and coherence. That’s been made possible by millions of ordinary people donating to his campaign, completely shattering fundraising records. McCain would be an absolute hypocrit if he says he wouldn’t do it if he had the money. The segment had strong ratings and it was a great opportunity for Obama to talk directly with the American people and explain exactly what he would do as President.

American Stories, American Solutions: 30 Minute Special

You’ll notice that McCain was never mentioned in the entire segment. While all McCain can do now is throw slime, along with the kitchen sink, at Obama. Because that’s all he can do. Is anyone familiar with McCain’s proposed policies? In 2000, when McCain was running against Bush in the Republican primaries, he personally stated that when all a campaign does is attack, it just means they don’t have any good ideas or solutions to the real problems facing this country. He also said he would never run a campaign so dirty. But that’s exactly what he’s done - McCain has run the filthiest Presidential campaign in history.

McSame’s campaign lacks substance and despite Obama’s assertions that he’d continue Bush’s failed policies from the last 8 years, he hasn’t done anything to really refute that. So basically McCain equals bad policies, continued influence from lobbyists (just look at how many are working in his campaign), and extremely poor judgement (Sarah Palin: case closed).

If it wasn’t obvious, I’m voting for Barack Obama next Tuesday and I feel supremely confident I’m making the right decision.

That George W. Bush is one of the worst Presidents we’ve had in history (if not the worse)? In his 8-year tenure, he has utterly failed in every respect. This country is so much worse than it was 8 years ago that’s it’s really just downright sad. People can do their own research but let me just mention some brief highlights:

National Security and Foreign Policy

We are engaged in 2 wars. We’re losing in Afghanistan to the resurgent Taliban - this is due to negligence and obsessive focus on Iraq, who had nothing to do with 911 and didn’t pose any imminent threat to us. We still haven’t caught Bin Laden after 7 years. We’re now spending $10 billion a month on both wars when we can’t afford such expenditures. These wars have not made us safer. They overstretch and weaken our military capabilities. Bush leaves behind the legacy of the preemptive strike and unilateral action in violation of the UN charter. This stance along with revelations of torture has made the US extremely unpopular abroad and severely damaged our credibility. Let’s not mention the false pretenses used by Bush to invade a much weaker, sovereign country. By all accounts, he should be tried as a war criminal.

Economy

Does this even need to be mentioned? Bush has managed to run the economy right into the ground. After unprecedented growth and budget surpluses from the Clinton years, we now have a record deficit and we’re facing the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression. The bottom isn’t here and the government doesn’t really know what they’re doing. The $700 billion bailout did absolutely nothing to calm the markets and the Dow has seen record drops over the last 2 weeks.

Education

No Child Left Behind has been broadly panned as a utter failure in education policy. Schools are doing worse and No Child wasn’t even sufficiently funded. Costs of college education are higher than ever and access to federal funds for student loans is more limited.

Healthcare

More Americans than ever lack health insurance and medical costs have skyrocketed. Insurance companies often refuse to provide coverage for costly illnesses and conditions.

Energy

They’ve done absolutely nothing about energy. We are still heavily dependent on foreign oil and we consume 25% of it, although we have less than 5% of the world’s population. Oil companies have made record profits while we pay more and more at the pump. The current drop in oil prices is due to reduced demand and threat of global recession. No incentives (or not good enough) were provided to auto companies to embrace hybrid technology and alternative fuels and now American companies like GM and Chrysler are struggling heavily against their Japanese counterparts.

Environment

This administration has failed to acknowledge global warming and refused to join the vast majority of the world in enacting the Kyoto Protocol to reduce emissions.

Civil Liberties

The Patriot Act, Domestic Security Enhancement Act, Military Commissions Act give the government unprecedented power to trample over our civil liberities and remove due process. Elements in those acts clearly violate basic tenets of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

—–

These are things just off the top of my head. In any area that you can bring up, Bush has failed in. You know, what the Obama campaign says about the McCain campaign is politically motivated but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. McCain is going to continue most of Bush’s failed policies. McCain’s copycat strategy of “we need change” is complete baloney. Case in point, he wants to completely deregulate healthcare and is touting a plan that would literally end employer-provided healthcare benefits - yea, so we can all get screwed over even more by the HMO’s. And with global warming, it just plain ticks me off when Palin says she doesn’t want to debate the causes. HOW DO YOU ADDRESS GLOBAL WARMING IF YOU DON’T KNOW THE CAUSE?! How do you fix ANY problem without finding and fixing the root cause? Sarah Palin, are you an idiot?! I think so.

This is one of the most important elections of our time and I encourage everyone to get out there and vote. My views are pretty clear on this blog but whatever your views are, you should vote. Register now if you’re not registered. Make sure your address is updated with your state and you know your polling place. You’ve probably noticed the “Rock the Vote” link on the left. This convenient form allows you to register to vote in your state - it’s powered by Rockthevote.org so absolutely no data gets passed through my website (so don’t worry about that).

The deadline for voter registration in many states is fast approaching. Go to maps.google.com/vote to check the deadline in your state, and register!

I voted in my first Presidential election 4 years ago because I felt very strongly that George W. Bush was so wrong for this country and I didn’t want to see him in office for another 4 years. I would’ve voted for Gore in 2000 but I wasn’t old enough to vote then. Anyway, I remember following the results all night long on TV and being utterly disappointed and sad when he won the election. Because I knew he was going to mess this country up for another 4 years.

Taiwan is holding it’s presidential election this weekend and the United States has sent 2 aircraft carrier battle groups to the Taiwan region for training exercises. The U.S. has typically deployed carrier battle groups around Taiwan to basically discourage China from doing anything “provocative”. If you’re not familiar, China as repeatedly stated that Taiwan is a province of China and that if Taiwan declares independence, it will use force if necessary to bring Taiwan under its rule. This would basically entail a full-scale invasion of Taiwan. In the past China has sought to influence Taiwan’s elections by trying to intimidate the electorate, sometimes firing missiles into the Taiwan Straight.

More information about the deployment here:
http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSN1934158120080319

I can’t speak specifically on Taiwanese politics but Taiwan is my “mother” country and I care very much for its well-being. My position is that Taiwan is a completely independent, sovereign nation. Communist rule and things like state-controlled media goes against basic principles of freedom. Goverment oppression of dissension, civil liberties, and free speech are just wrong. That’s why I don’t want Taiwan to be ruled by China.

But the ever-present threat of military force is worrisome because I have many relatives in Taiwan. China has hundreds of missiles, with more every year, pointed directly at Taiwan. Although Taiwan has purchased advanced military equipment, ships, and aircraft from the U.S., I doubt it can withstand a full scale invasion by China for very long without U.S. intervention. I only hope the U.S. continues to support Taiwan’s security.

Here’s some articles on this subject if you’re interested:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_status_of_Taiwan
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan_Relations_Act
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Assurances

As an aside, the aircraft carrier is a formidable ship and has become a symbol of American military power. The U.S. is the only country to operate what are known as supercarriers. Not only does a carrier house of dozens of fighter jets and bombers, each carrier is accompanied by an array of additional support ships like destroyers. That’s why it’s called a “battle group”. The carrier is so valuable because it enables “force projection” - the military can deploy a sizable air force almost anywhere in the world without airbases.

“Hehehehe.. I’m an idiot, ya see. I have no intelligent comments because I delegate! Hehe hehe.”

Let’s put aside the fact that private military contractors aren’t governed by any laws and don’t really need to follow military rules of engagement. For normal people, even if they don’t know the exact answer, they can still weigh in intelligently on the subject. You notice how the woman says Rumsfeld wasn’t sure but he thought the contractors would have to follow Iraqi law? But unfortunately Bush is a complete retard. He’s so stupid he can’t even bullshit his way through a question. They’re not laughing with you Mr. President, they’re laughing at you.

Can the Democrats stop being such wussies and actually get something done? They need to stop issuing subpoenas that get ignored or threatening contempt charges and instead actually take action! When is anyone going to take this administration to task and impeach Bush and Co. for their numerous crimes and transgressions? Democrats like to talk the talk but then they go and expand Bush’s illegal surveillance power. Pelosi is a god damn joke. Impeachment is off the table? What the hell is wrong with you woman? Great way to show everyone you’re really in the administration’s pocket, you sock puppet.

The founding fathers are rolling in their graves, seeing as how our system of checks and balances are being rendered null and void as Bush and the executive branch continue to act completely unchecked. King George and Queen Cheney need to be overthrown.

Approval ratings for both Bush and Congress are at record lows. Go figure.
