Phone Service
ViaTalk is Okay, Not That Good
So a couple months ago, I switched my phone service to ViaTalk from SunRocket. ViaTalk so far has worked okay but their customer support is exceedingly poor. It’s my understanding that they received a huge influx of customers fleeing SunRocket which overloaded their support staff. But even now, support response times take weeks and months. I’m not kidding. I’m a light support user generally, but they took forever answering my support tickets, which were not complicated issues at all.
SunRocket is Crashing
The VoIP company I use, SunRocket, apparently is going out of business. They have a lot of outstanding debt that they can’t pay and all last ditch efforts to either continue operations or sell the company have fallen through. In fact, a leaked internal memo states that SunRocket may shut down at close-of-business TODAY!

Phone Service is Cheap
In about 2 weeks I’m going to be cancelling both my DSL and normal phone service. I’m going to be switching to cable and VoIP service. VoIP phone service is significantly cheaper than regular landline phone service. For my business I’m currently using SunRocket and will probably continue to use that service for my home line as well. All in all this will actually end up saving us money. And then let’s not forget there’s free SkypeOut. I’ve been testing it and the quality is good and it doesn’t get any better than free, unlimited outgoing calls. And since everyone in my family also has a cell phone our home line isn’t really that important.
