Taken is a good movie but be warned this is definitely a guy’s movie. Liam Neeson’s character is like an older Jason Bourne. This guy takes down almost everyone he comes across with absolutely no mercy. But don’t feel bad for them, they were all really bad guys. Liam Neeson plays a retired government agent whose daughter (played by Maggie Grace) gets kidnapped on a trip to France. So he embarks on a personal mission to obviously find his daughter, but also to inflict pain, suffering, and death on the people who took her.

Sometimes it just feels good to see the hero kick ass and not even care about taking names. I mean he seriously kicked some ass in this movie. More like killed them. One example, he walks alone into a house full of baddies and takes all of them out. And I know how that sounds but it’s not done in a very cheesy way. It really is like the Bourne movies, it feels very realistic. Well, as realistic as this type of movie can be. The lucky ones that weren’t killed got away with a bunch of broken bones and probably a nice concussion.

The main character was also very true to his words. He tells the bad guy at the beginning over the phone that he’d find him and kill him, and that’s exactly what he did. Anyway, I recommend this movie, bottom line is it was entertaining.

The remake doesn’t compare AT ALL to the Korean version. The remake is worse in every aspect. The people who produced this movie clearly didn’t understand what made the original so great. If you’re going to watch this movie, watch the Korean version. I don’t have time to go into details right now but I’ll probably make a more in-depth review another time.

I recently watched Vantage Point and it was a really a mixed bag. I guess it was an okay movie. It was interesting to see each person’s individual point of view but there are so many plot holes or plot devices that were just really weak.

You really have to watch the movie to understand this review. I just can’t review this movie without tearing apart the plot. Everything else like the acting and the action sequences were decent and pretty good actually.

********** MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD **********

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

Obvious Twist/Villain

I called one of the villains very early on - the Secret Service agent played by Matthew Fox. It was kind of a twist and revealed later in one of the sequences but it was so obvious. When he ran off to check the room the shot came from, I said “he’s a bad guy.” There’s just no way someone manages to shoot the President (or fake President actually) or know his itinerary without inside help. And near the end, during the car chase, they tried to show he’s been living a double life and his native language is Spanish, but Matthew Fox’s Spanish was really bad. It sounded slow and rehearsed, not natural at all.

Things That Don’t Really Make a Lot of Sense

Secret Service Agent is Really a Terrorist

And how does a terrorist get to become a Secret Service agent? From his short Spanish explanation he apparently was living a double life for years. So you’re supposed to assume he was a “sleeper” for a really long time. OKAY then.

Cop Unknowingly Brings In Satchel of C4

The cop that was seduced by the female villain brings in her bag without knowing there are explosives inside. Apparently she worked up a fake relationship with him just so on this day he could bypass the security check and bring in her bag that she forgot. Shouldn’t the Secret Service be doing the security checks? It was just local police. The guy flashes his badge and they ask if he’s armed. He says yes, and hilariously, the guard says “okay, I’ll turn off the metal detector”.

Super-Assassin Being Coerced

Then there’s the assassin/random guy who’s brother is kidnapped and threatened. And he kills like 50 Secret Service agents by himself with a pistol. They explain this in one sentence when the main villain says on the phone “your brother spoke very highly of your special forces training.” OKAY then.

Secret Service Agents Don’t Wear Bullet-Proof Vests

I don’t understand why none of the Secret Service agents wear bullet proof vests. Every single agent that got shot, was hit in the chest or torso. All of them would’ve survived if they were wearing vests. Especially when they’re expected to block bullets for the President. I’m not an expert, but I think it’s extremely practical for a bodyguard to wear a bullet-proof vest.

Random Dude Filming Things

And they even threw in the random spectator, played by Forest Whitaker, who’s running around trying to film everything. It was so random and pointless. Actually if this character didn’t exist, it wouldn’t really have made a difference in the sequence of events.

Bad Guy Chooses Not to Run Over Little Girl

The primary villain manages to kidnap the President but it all gets undone because he refuses to run over a little girl (who was annoying as hell). Seriously what kind of kid is dumb enough to try and walk across a highway? Also, keep in mind this villain has masterminded the murders of tons of people that day and brutally killed the assassin’s little brother (whom he had kidnapped and promised to let go if the assassin did his part). BUT he refuses to run over this girl. Yes, that sure makes a lot of sense. Cold-blooded, ruthless killer with a heart.

Commercials Revealed Most of the Movie

Also, I remember the commercials for this movie basically revealed major parts of the story. That the President gets shot but it turns out it was a double and the real President is someplace safe but still gets kidnapped. What does it say about a movie when a commercial sums it all up? The movie basically filled in details and added action sequences. I think the movie would’ve been more enjoyable if these things weren’t revealed.

Conclusion: Bad Movie

I change my mind, it was not okay. In light of all these things, it was actually a pretty bad movie.

I’ve been cast in a lead role in an independent film and will by flying out to Vancouver tomorrow to begin shooting the movie. The cast is primarily Asian and is about a group of young 20-somethings who have been best friends for a long time but their lives begin to diverge as they pursue things like careers, marriage, and other endeavors. I’ll go into details when I have time but I’m really excited. I gotta go pack now!

Children of Men is a great movie - it’s gritty and captivating. It shows a really grim view of the future - the basic premise is that for some unknown reason women become infertile so there are no more babies. The movie starts off with the world mourning the death of the youngest person on the planet (an 18 yr. old). It’s a hopeless, degenerating society and apparently most countries are ravaged by terrorism and chaos. Consequently, the government cracks down hard. Most of the movie takes place in London.

A rebel group known as the “Fishes” have a woman that is pregnant and they need to get her to the Human Project, which is a mysterious underground group made up of the brightest minds on the planet, who are working on finding the cause and cure for infertility. There’s a slight plot twist and conspiracy as well but I won’t ruin anything. You really see the main character (played by Clive Owen) grow from a hopeless, apathetic person to well, a man of action.

Towards the end it gets rather intense as it depicts a lot of urban military combat. The shaky camera following the characters makes it feel very real. Overall, it’s a good movie and worth checking out. I like when I see a somewhat original idea because so many movies now are based off books or comics, rehashed stories, remakes, or just plain bad. Like that new Hilary Swank movie, Freedom Writers with her as a teacher (I’ve been seeing a lot of commercials for this, hence why I mention it). Please, you’re going to have to pay me to see that load of crap. Uhm, Dangerous Minds anyone? Probably a lot better than Freedom Writers.

Anyway, back to what I was saying - go check out Children of Men.

I saw this movie a couple of weeks back. Now, Vince Vaughn is usually pretty funny and in this movie he has some moments. You know how he mutters on and on about stupid things - that’s kind of his act. But this movie overall is pretty damn boring and after seeing the ending I wished I could take back the 90 minutes I lost to this utterly meaningless film. (Spoiler Alert: do not continue)

I’ll admit a lot of people can probably relate to some of the stuff in the movie like Aniston’s character wanting Vaughn to “want to wash the dishes” to which he replies “why would I want to wash the dishes?” I mean every guy has probably experienced this in one form or another. But after watching all their antics and what not, the movie literally just ends. Like a ship going on a voyage but just stops in the middle of the ocean for no reason. No conclusion. The movie just stops - leaving you thinking what in the HELL was the whole point.

So here’s the spoiler (if you can even call it that), the entire movie they string you along thinking maybe they’d end up getting back together. That’s the ending you expect and even if it’s cliched, that’s the ending I’d prefer. So I guess they tried to do something new, or rather stupid. Instead they don’t get back together and actually break up. And they go on their merry ways. And that’s it. If the movie as a whole was funnier, maybe I wouldn’t feel so ripped off. The one thing I hate worse than bad movies or boring movies are movies that have no point - and The Breakup is one of those pointless movies.

This is what happens when you let girls pick the movie. I can’t believe Pirates is making so much money. Not enough people saw Superman. Now that was a GOOD movie - my review possibly coming later. Admittedly, I have been a Superman fan since I was a kid but still. The guy can fly and he’s invincible - cool.

The book is much better. Movie is so-so. If you really want to enjoy the story of The DaVinci Code, I’d strongly advise you read the book. There would be no point in reading the book after you see the movie since most of the story has been revealed. The movie was pretty faithful to the book, no real changes.

My friends who didn’t read the book thought the movie was okay. There just seems to be a lot of talking in the movie, where they basically explain a lot of backstory and history. It’s different with the book because you’re reading it and following the action and discovering clues along with the characters. But in the movie, it’s all explained or shown to you, you’re not really immersed in it. While for book fans like me, it was nice seeing the story in film, but the movie seems a little dull.

There was one notable trailer during the previews and it’s for a movie called World Trade Center. I don’t know, I kind of have mixed feelings about it - I mean wow, a movie on it so soon? I don’t know what it is but everytime I see footage of 911 it gets me a little choked up.

So I watched V for Vendetta over the weekend and it was really good. As you may know, it’s produced by the same creators of The Matrix trilogy. The movie is thought provoking and a lot of the stuff alludes to what’s happening in the world today. The basic plot is that because of the global war on terror and attacks in England, English citizens eventually give up their civil liberties in the name of security.

A high chancellor rules the country, controls the media, and restricts a lot of basic freedoms. The people kind of just take this as the way life is. Then there’s this masked rebel called V who is determined to bring down the regime and open everyone’s eyes. Obviously V is a very mysterious character since he’s covered from head toe. Over the course of the movie you learn more about his past as well as how the current regime came to power.

It’s a really good movie and I recommend that you go check it out. And wow, Natalie Portman is so pretty. She manages to look attractive even when she’s bald. There’s a very cool scene in the beginning where V spews out a whole speech where nearly every single world starts with a “v”. You can almost tell instantly once V starts talking that he’s played by Hugo Weaving (Mr. Smith from the Matrix).

“People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.”

I only vaguely remember some episodes of the old cartoon on MTV, so you don’t really need to be an Aeon Flux fan to enjoy this movie because the movie stands on its own. Some critics are saying the plot is confusing but I thought it was pretty straightforward, so unless you’re an idiot, you should have no problems.

The story isn’t amazing but it is fairly interesting. The cinematography, set design, and overall style of this movie are cool. There are a lot of good shots throughout the film and the action is pretty unique because of Aeon’s style of movement. Even the fashion and architecture are pretty avant-garde so it really creates a different, futuristic environment and makes the movie somewhat artistic. There’s intrigue, mystery, and even love in this movie. I’d recommend the movie to others.

Charlize Theron definitely nailed the part right on the dot - I don’t think anyone else would’ve been able to portray the character with any depth. Plus Charlize is probably the only actress with the physical attributes to match Aeon Flux. She doesn’t have the perfect body but it’s good enough. Plus she did most of her own stunts, what other actress can do that?

They attributed this decision to my over-zealous female fan base and wanted to target young males with the movie’s action scenes. Here was the original poster for the movie:

Original Movie Poster of The Transporter

As you all may know, The Transporter 2 is coming out in September and I have been screwed over by production once again! They have used advanced digital technology (that puts Star Wars III to shame) to superimpose Mr. Statham’s face onto my body throughout the movie. I have been unable thus far to retrieve the original movie poster for Transporter 2 due to tight secure security (because of the leak the first time). But I will succeed! And when I do, rest assured the truth shall be revealed on this site.
