General Thoughts

General topics that I rant about. Or I’m too lazy to categorize it.

Car in the Shop, AIG Sucks

Okay so like the title says my car is currently in a body shop getting fixed up. I had an accident 3 months ago which was completely not my fault. I was coming out of an exit ramp and slowing down before merging onto the service road, when all of a sudden I got rear-ended. The car behind me obviously hit me and a third car hit the second car. Both were women. To quote the comedian Russell Peters – “I don’t create stereotypes, I just see them.” The ordeal begins…

Incompetence is Everywhere, I Can’t Stand It

Seriously. I can’t stand how incompetent people are that they can’t even complete simple tasks. In my last post I mentioned that I visited a med center to take care of some administrative issues regarding my mother’s health insurance. Well the reason for that visit was to fix a mispelling of my mother’s name on her insurance card. This was something that literally took 2 minutes but we were forced to go in person and wait an hour and a half.

Hot Weather Brings Out the House Centipedes

We’ve recently just had a 90+ heat wave for a week here in NYC and it seems to bring out the bugs. Most notably, house centipedes. Yes I just used my advanced research skills to find that page on Wikipedia.

10 Hours of Sleep Feels Really Good

I went to bed at 4 am and woke up at 2 pm on Sunday. I gotta say 10 hours of sleep feels really good. I haven’t had 10 hours of sleep for probably over a year. Everyone’s internal clock and needs are different but I think I probably need 10 hours of sleep on a regular basis. But I never get that. On average, I get around 6-7 hours which is not enough because around that mid-afternoon lull, I start getting very drowsy. Here are some interesting facts about sleep you may not know:

See’s Gourmet Lollypops Are The Best

Man, I love these suckers. They’re so good! By the way the title is not a mispelling – they call this particular product “Gourmet Lollypops” and I think it ships out of California. I’d definitely recommend everyone giving it a try. There’s 4 different flavors and they’re all decent but I like Butterscotch and Vanilla best (other 2 are Caffe Latte and Chocolate).

Sleeping Position

Hi everyone, not much to post about, I’ve been keeping busy. Got this via Digg:
http://www.flatseats.com/General/positions.htm

Sleeping Positions

It’s about sleeping positions and what they say about your personality. I don’t know how they can correlate sleeping position with personality and I don’t really believe in this stuff but it’s fun to read. I alternate between between Foetus, Yearner, Freefaller, and Starfish so what does that say? And who the heck sleeps in the “Log” position on top of their arm? It looks awkward and uncomfortable. I sometimes wake up in the Freefaller position except my arm is under the pillow and it’s almost completely numb because I cut off circulation. Trust me, it’s very weird when you wake up and you can’t feel your arm.

What the Heck?

Why is every media outlet going on about Anna Nicole Smith’s death? Okay fine she died – I’m sorry but I don’t know this person and from what I do know about her, I don’t get why this is significant news. Is there really nothing more important to report? I didn’t want to blog about it, but when it’s plastered on CNN.com for 2 days and counting and all over TV, it’s pretty annoying. Okay let’s move on to something more important please. NYtimes.com is much more respectable, barely even mentioning it (I believe I saw one link tucked away somewhere yesterday).

OMG, I Won the Euromillones Spanish Lottery! (SCAM)

I’ve Hit the Jackpot

I’m announcing my retirement – it’s only $715,950 but I think I can stretch that and bum around for a decade. Okay, I’m kidding. The other day I got a piece of mail (direct mail, NOT email) that came from Spain (I’m not sure, but definitely somewhere in Europe). There’s no return address and I thought… that’s weird, I don’t know anyone in Europe.

The Nightmare of Cancelling AOL

06/22/06 UPDATE: The guy trying to cancel the AOL account, Vincent Ferrari, was featured on a NBC segment with Matt Lauer and they played part of the his phone conversation. AOL has even issued a public apology to him. It doesn’t matter. If it has to take this much attention on the web and TV to make you issue one apology to one former customer, then there is something fundamentally very wrong with how your company does business. The rep apparently got fired according to AOL but I’m sure that was what he was trained to do. There’s no fixing this PR mess. See the NBC segment after the jump.

Here’s another example of how AOL systematically works against its customers. Listen to this phone conversation of a guy just trying to cancel his account. It’s pretty unbelievable how the rep keeps refusing to just honor the caller’s wishes. If it were me I’d be pretty damn pissed off.

Verizon DSL Sucks

At home, for my Internet connection, I use Verizon DSL and I’m pretty unsatisfied with the service. I initially signed up for Verizon DSL last June because my mom wanted to go online. She’s a pretty light Internet user and only visits a handful of websites. So it wasn’t a big deal. But during school breaks when I came home and especially now, I’ve found that Verizon DSL is slow and unreliable.
