Upgrading to Wordpress 2.3

Sometime tonight or tomorrow I’ll be upgrading the site to the latest version of Wordpress so you may notice issues with website access during the upgrade. Chances are you won’t even notice, but this is just a heads up. I’m also making a couple of changes on the backend to lay the groundwork for a complete redesign sometime in the near future. I’ll also be recoding the XHTML/CSS and the Wordpress theme, changing the navigation, and moving all the static pages over to Wordpress Pages. There will be some visual changes, but nothing too dramatic.

The site’s been successfully upgraded to Wordpress 2.3 without any major hitches. I am however rebuilding the theme using the Sandbox theme framework so parts of the site will look screwy.

I’ve already modified the design a bit (not live yet) but the more I play with it, the more I want to make even more changes. This might slowly evolve into a full redesign or at least a significant realignment of the current design. I’m between projects right now so I have some free time to play with this site.

Wordpress’ new built-in tagging system is pretty nice. I’ve gone through old posts adding tags and I’ve added the tag cloud on the sidebar which will probably get moved later on. But I have over 200 posts so it’ll be a while before they all get tagged up.

Okay the design changes have pretty much settled down - let’s just call this version 7.5. I still tweak the general interface whenever I have some time, so changes are ongoing but most of the design “refresh” is mostly completed. I removed the tag cloud because it just doesn’t fit in the narrow sidebar. May put it back somewhere, just don’t know where. I also added “Most Viewed” and “Related Posts” on post pages.
