Sick of Apple/iPhone News
I’ve never been a fan of Apple. Maybe I’m too ingrained with the PC but I find the Apple interface harder to use. The only times I’ve used a Mac were when I was in public libraries and all the PC’s were taken. I don’t own any Apple products. I don’t own an iPod and I don’t plan on getting one. With that said I’m so sick of reading about the iPhone. I subscribe to over 100 RSS feeds and lately I’ve been seeing TONS of articles about the iPhone launch date.
What is it about Apple that has their customers and the press raving like rapid dogs? I’ll give them credit for their product design and marketing but that’s it. None of their products interest me at all. I’m a creative professional and I do NOT want an iMac, okay? An iMac is not any better than a PC for creative work. I don’t know where this urban myth, stereotype, or whatever it is came from. Not only that, if you want to do any kind of gaming, good luck with a Mac. Not to mention Apple computers are more expensive simply due to the brand premium. I’m sorry but in my point of view, Apple sucks. They simply HAD to move to Intel chips just to get more universal software built for the Apple platform and to grow their market share.
Now the iPhone. Who wants to shell out $499/$599 for this phone? There certainly seems be a lot of people who do. But not me. I don’t want a music player combined with a cell phone. I can’t imagine battery life is that great and you can’t even swap it out. Imagine you’re listening to music on this thing for a couple of hours and all of a sudden it dies and you can’t charge it or make calls until you get home to recharge it. I already have a phone with a glossy surface and it gets very smudgy very fast. The iPhone’s entire surface is a touch screen. You’ll be wiping this thing down all day.
But even if you don’t like Apple products, don’t own any, and don’t plan on owning any in the future, it’s still a good time for Apple stock owners. YES! The hypocrisy! You can bet the masses and the Apple fanboys/girls will lap up Apple products willingly and lovingly.
06/26/2007 UPDATE: At the very least, the iPhone is going to cost $499 plus $36 AT&T activation and at least $59.99 every month for 2 years. So that comes out to an investment of $1974.76 for this phone, not including taxes and other surcharges. Is that ridiculous or retarded? Choose one. I could go out and get one but I have absolutely no desire to. Why?
1. You’re paying full price for the phone yet if you at any time decide to cancel during your 2-year contract at AT&T, you still pay the $175 termination fee. Even though the price of the phone isn’t subsidized by the carrier. And good luck using the iPhone with another service since AT&T has a 5-year exclusive on it.
2. I like my Verizon Wireless service and enjoy the great phones for almost nothing.
3. AT&T is essentially forcing people to buy text and data services with their plans even though people may not need/want them.
4. There are plenty of phones out there and coming soon that have the functionality of the iPhone. The only thing you’re really buying is the Apple/iPod brand.
I’m not hating on Apple for the heck of it. I think besides looking decent, all their products suck. I was considering an iPod shuffle at one time, basically something small I can take to the gym or something but there’s no LCD and no FM radio.

mac has had right click for a while now…
My mistake - at the time I wrote this post, I had not used a Mac for a quite a while so I guess they later added right click. Good for Apple since I thought lack of right-click was really annoying and I’m sure they knew that too, especially if they wanted to convert PC users over to Apple.
I’ve removed that snip from the post.
