My Spring Break 2006 Post
It’s a pretty quiet spring break this year. This time I just wanted to stay home, relax, and catch up on sleep. I also wanted to use the time to do some business related research. I don’t know why but at school there just seems to be so many distractions and interruptions. You try to set aside time for things but everything is so discontinuous.
People Actually Read This Crap Now
I had actually typed a whole rant about some frustrations but decided not to post it. The whole point was just to get it out. It’s like therapy when you just write things out and read it over. Sounds stupid but give it a shot. Didn’t post it because the whole thing just smacks of negativity and why put that out there. This blog is pretty public, I actually have to be cautious of what I put out there. It used to be that only people I didn’t know came and read this site. I could talk about whatever and whoever I wanted and no one I knew would ever know. But no so anymore.
Stuffbox Version 2 Beta
Anyway, the new version of my entertainment related site, Stuffbox has been released. The site has funny, interesting videos, flash movies, games, pictures, jokes, stories, and even celebrity news (these celeb gossip sites are really popular apparently). A bunch of sections are still under development. I have big plans for this site and eventually hope to make $5 billion dollars a month from it on ad revenue. Okay fine, realistically I only expect like $500,000. But hey, I can dream.
Professional Blogging?
I’ve also been looking into professional blogging. There are professional bloggers who make 6 digits a year just talking about a subject they like that’s useful to other people. 6 digit salary for blogging every day. Not too shabby. You don’t even need to be an expert at what you’re discussing. You just need to do your research and support what you’re saying.
Web 2.0, WTF is Going On
I’m also looking for an idea to take advantage of this whole Web 2.0 movement. If you’re somewhat into web development and the Internet industry you’ve probably heard all the hoopla about “Web 2.0.” It’s all about Internet standards, rich Internet applications (particularly AJAX powered ones), and social networking. Yahoo paid $20 million or something like that for del.icio.us, a social bookmarking site. I mean, holy crap - the site does nothing but let users collect links and the URL sucks. Another site I frequent often, Digg, is growing by leaps and bounds and it’s only a year and a half old. I don’t know how they plan on making money. But it seems these days, sites are trying to just build as big a user base as possible and then think about their revenue model later. I don’t know if Web 2.0 is another bubble but the fact is people cash out before the bubble bursts. So there’s the opportunity. The idea seems to be that once you command the attention of a large group of people, there’s always a way to make oodles of money from it.
Battlestar Galactica
This doesn’t have anything to do with the other stuff but this is one of my favorite shows. Some of my friends think I’m dorky for liking this show but I don’t give a frack. The story lines and the character driven nature show are excellent, not to mention the action and spaceships. The same can be said about Lost. The fact is Lost is a science fiction fantasy show. You may not think so but if you read more about the show online, you’ll discover Lost is thinly disguised as a mainstream show. By the way there are some excellent master theories for Lost posted at the Dharma Secrets forum by users that make a lot of things make much more sense. ANYWAY, Battlestar Galactica is very exciting except their current season is over and won’t start again until October. The show is critically acclaimed across the board even with mainstream critics. It airs on the Scifi channel and in fact, NBC Universal (which owns Scifi) is considering moving it to NBC because of the show’s success and wide appeal.
Fishshape Hair Shaping Cream
So I’m using this hair styling product from some salon in Soho, London called Fishshape Shaping Cream. It’s kind of like hair styling wax. I love this stuff. It’s relatively waterproof and doesn’t cause white flaky crap like hair gel does. It gives your hair more texture and provides a more natural look - basically people can’t tell you have product in your hair. It lasts all day and you can restyle it whenever you want. It also smells decent too. I have all these hair styling products. Not that I’m metro but its just that I never find something I like. A lot of my products are barely used. I should just throw them out. Why do I use hair styling products? Because if I don’t my hair usually falls kind of flat and looks drab and dull.
Okay, so we’ve covered a lot of random crap, and I have some other stuff to tend to so later.

Hi Philip,
Learn about Google AdSense - you can put the code into your Blog/StuffBox website and collect part of what advertisers are paying Adwords with each click.
How is your Spring Break?
How is your biz coming along?
Hi Philip, thanks, yes I know all about Google Adsense. I had previously gotten rejected by Google for the Stuffbox site (because of the membership structure and member-only content), thus the retooling. I plan on using Adsense along with some other programs. Spring Break is going well. I’m building the direct mail list and thinking about what to include in the mailing and plan to get it out soon after I get back.
Hi Philip,
Check out some books about direct mail. You can check out some direct mail, b to b direct mail books for your copy.

Postcards also work. http://www.modernpostcard.com/
Hard to ignore a nice postcard - direct mail/junk mail is tossed out often.
